Powered by Big Ben Cahen's two round trippers, the NDN Globalization Trotters slugged their way to a 15-11 win over Not Rocket Scientists.
Cahen led off the game with a single before being driven home by utility man Chris McCleary's RBI single. McCleary, Steve Arnoff, and Courtney Markey also plated runs in the top half of the Globalization Trotters' four run first inning, which was capped by Tracy Leaman's first RBI of the season.
The hit parade continued in the second inning when Cahen led the way with a double following Svetlana Matt's seeing eye single found a hole in NRS' stellar infield. Cara Fisher singled before the heart and soul of the Globalization Trotters, yours truly, laced a two RBI single up the middle. (He would later score on a shot by Arnoff.) DH Mike Salamon would plate Markey and Arnoff for their second runs of the day to give the Globalization Trotters a 9-2 lead.
The onslaught continued in the third with Travis Valentine adding a hit, on top of his outstanding play in Centerfield, and scoring on Cahen's two out jack to extend their lead to 11-2.
In the bottom half of the third, Pitcher Mike Moschella struggled, surrendering five runs that cut the lead to 11-7.
Jon Corsiglia, Not a rocket scientist, made an over the shoulder grab in the top of the fourth robbing Globalization Trotters, Player/Manager O'Donnell of extra bases. The disheartened NDN'ers went quietly for the next two innings.
Moschella's struggles continued in the fourth as the lead was cut to two with a score of 11-9. In the fifth, Not Rocket Scientists loaded the bases with no outs but the never say die Globalization Trotters shut them down to close the door on the rally.
Fueled by some questionable calls in the bottom of the fifth, the Globalization Trotters came out swinging in the top of the sixth. Scoring four runs including the eventual game winner driven in by O'Donnell and Cahen's second home run of the game where he unselfishly scored rather than holding up at third to complete the cycle, a feat most only dream of, giving the Globalization Trotters a 15-10 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, Moschella's control started flagging a bit which caused O'Donnell to activate the bullpen with closer Mike Salamon, who was able to get things under control after giving up a run to give him the complete game 15-11 win.
Following the game O'Donnell said, "I am really proud of the way everyone played tonight. We had some tough situations, but this is a gritty ball club and we came together. The box score may not reflect it but Jake Berliner was a big contributor tonight. Speaking of contributions, I want to remind any fans of NDN that they can renew their membership in NDN by making their contributions at www.ndn.org."
The Globalization Trotters are back in action Monday night against the Lefties of NGP and on Wednesday they travel to Tenleytown to take on the Metro All-Stars. As a reminder to fans, the Monday night game is Joe Garcia Throwback Jersey night. The first 10,000 fans will receive a jersey honoring the former Hispanic Strategy Center Director, compliments of the Hispanic Strategy Center.
